The Football Association Challenge Trophy was introduced in 1969 as the first national competition for senior non-league teams. As such, and although regionalised in early rounds, it gave Boro their first chance to compete against their Southern counterparts on a regular basis. Enfield, Chelmsford, Wimbledon, Dagenham and others from the Southern League or Isthmian League were eagerly-awaited fixtures which pulled in large crowds. Before the inauguration of the Alliance Premier League in 1979 the FA Trophy was the only way of seeing a North versus South clash at non-league level. Another exciting aspect of the Trophy was that the Final was played at Wembley Stadium. The first FA Trophy winners were Macclesfield Town.who beat Telford United 2-0 in front of a crowd of 28,000. Telford returned the following year to defeat Hillingdon Borough 3-2. Stafford Rangers won the Trophy in 1972 by beating Barnet, and then... it was Boro's turn. Below are the results of every game ever played by Scarborough Football Club in the FA Trophy.
